Block 19 of the Block of the Month Chester Criswell Quilt was made by Emily Carlile in 1852.

Emily Carlile was from the bride’s mother’s side of the family and Margaret Criswell from the bride’s father’s family.  They each used this pattern for their wedding quilt blocks.  Emily made her block in turkey red; Margaret’s block was made in red and green.  You can make either block from the pattern and read a snippet about their life in 1850 rural Pennsylvania.
